Who we are

Akwaaba is a volunteer-run, mutual-aid community based in Hackney that provides food, support and childcare. We are open to all migrants, regardless of immigration status, 'race', religion, country of origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and (dis)ability.

We believe that no-one is illegal. We are committed to actively opposing racism and all other forms of discrimination and oppression.

Support us

We have been part of the Hackney community for the last ten years, providing support to hundreds of people every session.

Although we have historically been funded by grants, individual donations provide us with the autonomy and flexibility we need to support our community in the most impactful ways.

Join a session

We run regular sessions open to all migrants looking for support in any form, including food, legal support, childcare or a space to meet new people.

Volunteer

We are always looking for more volunteers to join our community and help with the running of our sessions, provide practical support, childcare and help out in the kitchen.
